BEST POEM OF THE MONTH CORNER

Even the Animals Know

By Carol Dee Meeks

The night serene in peace
like doves while angels sing
their praise of love, their strength
like current ampere flows,
in awe each animal, he knows.

The night is calm, the night is still,

and there's a light upon the hill.

It shines so bright,

the star this night
Oh! What a glorious sight.

Even the animals
all know. The child that lays
atop the hay, the child
who comes and makes us free,
even the animals take a knee.

Even the animals all know,
its Christmas here, the world’s aglow.
This winter time, this season's best
even the animals know we're blest.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS and a PROSPEROUS NEW YEAR TO ALL!

Also welcome to our new members!  We’re glad you joined us during this time of year.  I love Christmas as much as I did when I was a little girl! And I’m excited about this month’s issue; it’s packed with Christmasy poetry, short stories and helpful, informative articles for coping with the holidays that will leave you breathless.  Btw, hubby & I had a fabulous Thanksgiving and vacation in Florida last month! It is exactly what we needed, and it was wonderful visiting with family… But it’s also good to be back to a routine. There was only one problem while there, my back and knee hurt from a too-soft mattress! This was because I suffer with chronic back and knee pain…

Although I do not often speak of this and I truly don’t want to be depressing, I have lived with chronic pain every day for the past 13 years… I fell down a flight of stairs [on my way to work] three years before my hubby and I met. I now cope with constant pain due to the internal injuries this caused. An orthopedic surgeon confirmed my injuries by taking MRI’s.  My pain while in Florida was extremely bad; although I loved the pillows – it felt as if I was sleeping on heavenly clouds! – the too-soft mattress, however, was horrible for me but wonderful for my husband! The reason I’m telling you this is because upon reading our contributor Kay/Writewize’s story article, “Lupus Put a Hitch in My Guddyup,” I’m now seriously thinking of having the back & knee surgeries a previous orthopedic surgeon wanted to do.  I can relate to Kay’s story, living with chronic illness is often worse than chronic pain; chronic illness often comes with constant pain too. So, instead of going with my previous orthopedic doctor, I have been doing extensive research into another one. And upon reading an article in New York ® magazine, where they ranked Hospital for Special Surgery [HSS] as #1 for Orthopedics in NYC, I’ve decided to consult with the doctors there instead! I feel good about my decision to do so. Doing RESEARCH before having surgery of any kind is an excellent idea, and the best way to be an informed patient. If I do have the surgeries, I will keep you informed… just now I’m too scared. But the pain is getting WORSE. So we shall see, I can’t wait much longer… I would love for the ortho doctor at “Hospital for Special Surgery [HSS]” to do both surgeries in one day, but I know that’s not possible. So, please always do RESEARCH when making medical decisions.

On a more CHEERFUL note,

CONGRATULATIONS TO CAROL DEE MEEKS for her wonderful poem Even the Animals Know being chosen as Best Poem of the Month! To read more of her excellent work, scroll down to our Coffee House 4 Poets & Writers Corner!
